I have a '97 GT and the engine check light has been on ever since i did my auto to manual swap. My mechanic said it was just a product of the swap, but i was thinking i shoudl make sure. I checked in my Chiltons manual and it says i need to use some special tool (OBD II scan tool) to check the code to check the codes for the 96-98 models. I dont have this tool, but was wondering if i jsut connceted the TE1 and E1 terminals anyway, will i get the beeps and be able to figure out from them? Or do you NEED the scan tool like the manual says?

You have a 97 so yours is a obdII the terminal jumps will only work for 94-95 models go to auto zone or oriellys or your nearest auto store and they can scan it for you usually for free or if u want u can just buy a obdII scan tool for around $100 and do it yourself.
