My parents recently bought a 2010 Toyota Prius. And Both my father and I are interested in how the Planetary gear set works, mostly how it allows the Electric motor to run and the gasoline motor to run a different RPMs and drive the wheels at the same time.
Anyone explain? -------------------- ![]() Kawi Love |

Well the new 2010 is a CVT (i believe) not that it changes its interaction with the rest of the Japanese black magic they have under all the warning labels. Im still confused as to how the car runs by using both the electric motor and gasoline engine.
Ive looked up the plant gear set, and its quite a feat, but at some points (usually while crusing over ~40) ull see the motor recharging the battery, while running the drive wheels. But at the same time, the eletric motor is running the drive wheels in tandom....yeah...japanese black magic -------------------- ![]() Kawi Love |
