Alright so awhile back I decided to ditch the old kenwood deck w/ ballin tape player and 10 disc changer (broken) in the trunk...for this pioneer
here Here is what I want to do. my stock speakers are going. I want to replace the back and the front and at some point later, the tweeters(although they are last on the list) I plan on sound proofing the car with the duct insulation and foam padding, and putting squares of dynamat directly behind the speaker (on the door) I don't want to add any speakers, just replace these ones. My stepdad has a 8in mtx audio sub he has never used (bought 2 and only put one in his truck) and there is a strong chance I can have it. If that happens I would like to put it in, but tuck it. Questions, Do I need an amp? What are some good speakers...better than oem, not bose. Anything is an improvement at this point. would staying pioneer be better? I realize the head unit isn't much, I am not looking for the best sound system, (no trunk full of bass) just something cleaner and quieter that works with what i have, basically, how can i maximize what i have? I don't listen to rap but everything else, seriously, from choirs, to country, rock, classic and new, and especially blues and lots of guitar stuff (bb king, SRV, clapton, mayer, eagles, zz top etc.) Basically if they go to the crossroads guitar festival, I listen to them. thanks in advance (and i am going to read crutchfield for more info) This post has been edited by 97celiman: Nov 23, 2009 - 11:58 PM |

i just have the basic system in the car, no premium sound. which is fine with me.
the sub/amp is really last on the list... i guess a better question would be, what are the best speakers I could get to match my head unit. I am not really looking to upgrade the headunit, mostly i just want the sound back to factory quality/slightly better. i would rather replace tweeters and all 4 speakers than spend on amp and sub, if i remember correctly, the guy said this head unit only had one output for an amp, thats all i would really want anyway. I am not a big car audio junkie (i don't want others to hear my bass just me) nor am i interested in the pimp my ride stuff, just standard upgrade, and what would be the best match for my head unit. I bought it knowing it wasn't that expandable i don't expect it to be. and yes i would love those speakers...working on the money part right now. correct me if i am wrong, the front door speakers on a gt are 8in and the back are 6.5? (w/out premium sound) This post has been edited by 97celiman: Nov 25, 2009 - 1:49 AM |

correct me if i am wrong, the front door speakers on a gt are 8in and the back are 6.5? No. They're 6.5's all around, but the fronts have a metal ring around them in order to fit into the 8" space. You need mounting adapters to make 6.5's fit in the front. The rears just swap out. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]
