I've got the 8 speaker sound system in my Celica, with the premium headunit.
The tape player will occasionally click when I'm listening to my iPhone, which is really annoying.(It's very loud.) Is there a fix? Something I can do? I refuse to buy another headunit(unless it's another OEM one identical to what I have(and if you want to sell yours, PM me, I want a spare)) because I don't want a disco ball in my cockpit. Ah, you not going to want to hear this, but here goes: I also have the premium sound w/cassette and this is what I found: the drive gears develop cracks, see pic below, probably due to heat/cold cycles. The areas outlined in hot pink are where they are on mine, as you can see I tried re-shaping the gears and gluing them a bit but it only helped when playing in one direction.
I spent a couple hours trying to find info on the net for Fujitsu parts but didn't have much luck. As a side note the Mrs's Camry (2000 LE) makes the same noise on her cassette, so I expect it is the same unit. When I figur' out how to post an image w/o using p'bucket you'll see what I mean.
