I have the 7afe and I always have this problem with the toyota's i've owned. When I check the oil, the dip stick will show more oil on one side than the other depending on which way I put it in. I feel stupid asking this question but I just don't know the answer. Which direction does the guage part of the oil dip stick go in, facing the front of the car or to the rear of the car.

I can't believe I'm the only one. I always check the oil in my garage which is level. The difference between the two sides is half a quart or just a tad bit more. I just changed the oil in my car sunday along with the oil filter and 3.5 quarts. My chiltons manual has the capasity for every motor except the 7afe. I figured i'd put the 3.5 quarts in and let it set overnight and the add more if needed the next morning. When I went out to check the oil the next morning thats when I noticed the different readings on it depending which way i put the dipstick in. I think I'll go get a oil pressure guage tomorrow,do yall know what the oil pressure should be at? I did as speedtoe suggested and averaged the two levels out. My only concern is putting too much oil in cause you all know thats as bad as not enough. By the way,it runs perfect and I switched to synthetic and it runs even better now.
