7A, stick. I get around 550 miles to the tank (36mpg highway at 65-70 mph, 38mpg country at 45-50 mph). It's not so hard once you get used to driving that way. I tend to shift around 2.5k or so and am in 5th by about 35 mph. I actually wish I had a 6 speed so I could upshift again on the highway. I get tired of buzzing along.
I don't spend much time stuck in traffic and do make sure that I tailor my speed to the traffic that's there. I don't like pissing people off just so I can save a few cents. You'd be surprised how little time you lose choosing to drive more relaxed. I took an hour mixed city/freeway trip in which I drove 50 on the freeway and it cost me about 5 minutes extra. Conservation can add up money-wise over the long haul. Of course I view my Celica as a sexy economy car that's dead practical, not a sports car. ![]() -------------------- |
