 Car starts, runs rough then dies after about 30 seconds |

So when i start my car it idles very rough and even if you pick up the rpms to 2000 or 3000 you can still feel its running noticeably rough it'll last if you keep the rpms above 1500 but when it goes to idle it'll die in a few moments and then it wont start for a while.could this be the alternator going bad? I've checked all fuses and they seem fine, and also the check engine light came on so any ideas on whats wrong with it?

check the IAC (may need to clean it) and check that the vac line to the MAP sensor is connected. any mods or recent changes to the car?
if you keep the idle speed up manually (foot on pedal) will it run ok after about a minute? -------------------- |
