Car starts, runs rough then dies after about 30 seconds Options

So when i start my car it idles very rough and even if you pick up the rpms to 2000 or 3000 you can still feel its running noticeably rough it'll last if you keep the rpms above 1500 but when it goes to idle it'll die in a few moments and then it wont start for a while.could this be the alternator going bad? I've checked all fuses and they seem fine, and also the check engine light came on so any ideas on whats wrong with it?

yeah theres no oil comming out of the drain plug and I put over 4 quarts so im sure theres oil. and if i put the dip stick in the hole without that holder device in it'll pick up oil but that holder won't stay in place it swivels and if i pull the dip stick to hard it brings the holder out too. but also I have a new thing the car seems to run fine now but the check engine light is still on and If you smell my exhaust it smells like sulfur or a rotten egg.
