"that sensor" they talk about is the emergency fuel cut off sensor. It detect when a car has flipped upside down and cuts off the fuel pump. Those things do go bad and randomly cut off the power to the fuel pump.

To test that sensor, the cheapest way is to run power directly from the battery to the fuel pump. If your car drives fine change the sensor.

However if you still have problems, change the fuel filter and see if you can get your fuel system pressure tested and match according to the manufacture specification. If your fuel pressure is not correct it would be a bad fuel pump. Or a bad fuel strainer that gets clogged up and starves your fuel pump.
