Hey guys,
I was bored this morning, so I started on a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure for my car. The enclosure will hold one ten inch subwoofer, and I'm trying to make the enclosure volume be approximately .75 cubic feet. More photos will be posted as my project progresses, and once it's done, I'll make a how-to article with more details and things like that for the site. Today I masked off the area where I want the enclosure using masking tape and aluminum foil. This took me about two hours, because I quickly ran out of my 3" wide masking tape, and the 1" thick blue masking tape didn't stick very well, so I had to use a lot of .75" masking tape. I used aluminum foil for a couple large flat areas, though in the future I don't plan to use it, as when you're laying the fiberglass, it tends to pull up a bit. After the car was masked and I ate thanksgiving dinner, I went back and laid down the first layer of fiberglass, which took me about 2 hours. The fiberglass is curing right now, and tomorrow I should be able to take it out of the car and put on a couple more layers after I cut the fiberglass. Below is a photo of my progress so far. ![]()

Are those filler sheets similar to Kyntex? Are they supposed to be strong enough that you only need a couple of layers?
I don't think my parents would be too happy with the vodka idea, though I suppose if I really didn't wanna feel the cold I could not wear a mask and get high off of the curing resin fumes. ![]() As for doing the corners and mounting the MDF ring, I plan to use wooden dowels and hot glue to connect the base of the enclosure to the MDF ring. Then I'll stretch fleece over the entire thing, and hot glue it in place, and then I'll apply some resin to that, let it cure, and then add a few layers of fiberglass. Then I'll apply some autobody filler and sand to prep for paint, then paint it and finish it up. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...
