Japan has strict laws about automobile taxes. Making it very expensive and illogical to own an older car. This is for emissions, and stimulus reasons. The short of it is that the older a car, the more you pay on taxes and registrations for it. Meaning in order to 'keep' an older car, you must either register it as an antique or show car. Registered as such, it can't be you main mode of transport. Meaning that most one car families will not be able to justify owning a older car.
Thus the car is sold for scrap, taken off the road and cut up so we Americans can buy them. -------------------- Your thinking privileges have been revoked!
