I always been wondering why they changed the engines in USA?. I dont recall if its the same 1.8 engine, But why did they make it 2.2 and only give it 130 hp?.

I meen, Why not just make the same engines everywhere, You should've had the 1.8 or 2.0 like in Japan and europa.

But there has always been difference on USA's models compared the Japan / EU models..

Is it to reduce prices?, Legal reasons?. Someone help biggrin.gif

i think it had to do with marketing.... first off the US didn't get the gt4 cause of poor sales with the alltrac.

secondly, the 6gc's target was young women so they made the celica the "economy" sports car, and gave it economical motors.

I also agree though with the emissions etc. mentioned by others... and the fact that the engines we in the US got were already being used... that makes it easy.
