right ive been avoiding asking these questions but its time to bite the bullet as the toyota manuel dont tell you much and i cant get a hyanes celica gt manuel in the uk as yet so ive got a few to ask.
1. just had a new power streering belt fitted and when i got full lock left or right the thing screams like mad, how do you adjust it? and the fluid is proper dark in colour is it easy to change? 2. how much defection should the throttle cable have? 3. have a knocking sound coming from the near side rear and with the car on the floor you can get hold of the anti roll bar and it moves from side to side a lot, and the cars rear does seem to wiggle about when you drive, could the noise be linked to this? 4.my idle is a little rough and ive yet to service the car since i bought it around 3 weeks ago but had to fit a new cam belt and water pump and it came in at over 500 pounds so not had the money yet, the idle flutters ever so slightly somtimes and somtimes even misses a beat, when i survice the car ill do all the oils and dissy cap and rotor and the ht leads and stick some plat or iridum plugs in ngk of course but is there anything else to look at like the idle control valve? clean up or somthing reset etc? 5. how does the cold start work? when starting the car cold it fires up first turn of the key but the revs dont go very high and it seems to not quite strugle but if you start the car warm it fires up strong and revs up fine and then settles down fine, iam i just being paranoid? as i dont know how it adjusts, do the revs go up less if its not as cold out side? 6. got this funny looking brain i the boot of the gt see pic, anyone recognice one of thses things as i got no idea nor did the kid that sold me the car. the car does have a funny small aerial on the back wind screen around an inch and a half tall. the anntena for the radio is in the wing and goes up and down as normal. god i need a manuel! ![]() |

ah cheers, i posted the same qustions bar the last brain one on celica tech, and one guy replyed saying that the throttle slack should only be 2 -3 mm, mine was at around 20 to 30 mm, so tightened it up so i still had about 9 to 10 mm play at the throttle pedal and it sems a bit more eger, like iam driving a 2.ol now, even starts alittle stronger cold but revs still only hit 1000 rpm max and on celica tech the guy reckoned 1500max but hes got a us spec. revs hit 1500 when i start the car warn though and fall stright away like they should.
i also have a coolent leak on the lower hose but dont know if its the rad gone **** or the hose, and found a blow on the last join in the exhuast, so that might help to explain the fine one minute odd the next idle. ive orderd a set of drop links and mounting bushes for the rear sway bar alrady should have them in the next couple of days hopfully. there must be a adjuster on the ps belt, it was a new belt a few weeks agos so must have stretched. so all ive got to do is find the money to change, plugs, ht leads, oil, gear oil, fuel and oil filter, air filter, most of the exhuast, posibly and new rad or rad hose, and may be just may be a ect sensor! not much then1 ![]() cheers for the advice though much much aprecated! |
