My Latest Project Options

Hey guys,
I was bored this morning, so I started on a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure for my car. The enclosure will hold one ten inch subwoofer, and I'm trying to make the enclosure volume be approximately .75 cubic feet. More photos will be posted as my project progresses, and once it's done, I'll make a how-to article with more details and things like that for the site.

Today I masked off the area where I want the enclosure using masking tape and aluminum foil. This took me about two hours, because I quickly ran out of my 3" wide masking tape, and the 1" thick blue masking tape didn't stick very well, so I had to use a lot of .75" masking tape. I used aluminum foil for a couple large flat areas, though in the future I don't plan to use it, as when you're laying the fiberglass, it tends to pull up a bit. After the car was masked and I ate thanksgiving dinner, I went back and laid down the first layer of fiberglass, which took me about 2 hours. The fiberglass is curing right now, and tomorrow I should be able to take it out of the car and put on a couple more layers after I cut the fiberglass.

After leaving the enclosure in my shed with the space heater pointed at it all night last night and this morning, the resin on the t-shirt material dried. So today I cut off the excess material around the outside and sanded it, and cut out the inside and sanded that too. Tomorrow the first layer of fiberglass and resin will go on the outside of the box if I can make it to the store to get some more brushes, and hopefully I can have it ready for paint by Sunday.
