QUOTE (95celgt @ Jan 3, 2004 - 6:18 AM)
cwm13.gif I dont know but my Celi kick @$$...Insane 1st gear goes up to 40, then when second shifts in it pulls hard again to about 55-60, third picks up to 90 with ease......which i dont get to unless im on the highway.

Heh... either that, or you've never driven a truely INSANE car. I'll still stand by my statement before...

Let me also put it this way... my brother-in-law drives a 91 n/a MR2. It runs high 15's and is slightly modded... yet he had his ass handed to him by my cousin, who drives a 93 Integra LS, also slightly modded. I can even set-up for a video to be shot of a race against the MR2, the Teg, and against myself. My car is much faster or just as fast as any slightly modded GT.

Let me also mention something about engines, and why the Integra engines 'lack response'.... The very nature of a high-powered n/a engine, especially a 4 cylinder, is exactly opposite of the USDM 6th gen Celica's engines. Not just compression-wise, etc... but the way the engines make their power. I'll be one to say, even tho others will argue torque means more than power, that power will always with in a race. They are essentially the same thing, however, the difference is where they are. Torque is usually peaked in the lower-mid rpms, between 1500-4000 rpms. That alone, means high torque, will only help for one gear, considering if you're racing, the engine will be revving very high. Power is in the high rpms, and when racing, you'll be in the high rpms 90% of the time. That is the defeating factor as to why the USDM 6th gen celica motors are not built and cannot perform the way many people want them to (without a lot of $$$ of course). Now, the Integra motors 'lack response'... umm, no they don't. The very nature of the B series motors (B16, B18, B20, B21) are to revv and make power (just like any other performance n/a 4 banger). Vtec utilizes that and enhances it even more, however, isn't neccesary for these engines to make their power. If you drive an Integra, and keep it under 3000 rpms... it'll be a very tame car. Regardless of whether its an LS/GS/RS or GSR, they'll all have a significant powerjump beyond 4000-5000 rpms. The GSR will have an even larger jump, because of the vtec system. Couple that with their short gearbox and there you'll have a very capable n/a car in stock trim. Add a few bolt-ons, fuel/timing tuning, some cam tuning, and these are n/a cars that can tip-toe the 14 second barrier. No joke.

My point in all of this mess, if you've managed to keep it all straight, is that, performance oriented n/a 4 cylinder engines, all act the same. They have little response in the low-end, and 'jump' to their power spots in the high-end. Those very fast LSVTEC conversions that are so popular with honda enthusiasts, typically rev to around 10K rpms. Some of them are 12-13 second cars with very little low-end bang. Toyota's Formula Atlantic 4AG, 240 hp @ 10,000 rpms.... TRD's group A 20Valve 4AG 255 hp @ 11,000 rpms... even in production trim, the old 4AGE's redline @ 7500 rpms, the 20Valve 4AGE redlines @ 7800 rpms... on and on and on. Those that say torque will always win... well... off the line, yes... but accelleration ability is measured in HORSEPOWER because of the revving nature of engines. Torque wins in the old American V8s because they all have very tall gearing which benifits the torque curve, and very modest redlines, which further benifits the torque, but they're not being compared here. I'm talking strictly Import 4 banger's n/a potential...
