So when I usually drive my car, I usually have the sunroof tilted up. The other day I went to tilt it up as usual and the motor started to wind, but all I heard was a loud grinding noise. No movement of the sunroof at all. I tried sliding the sunroof back but when I pushed that button, it tilted up. Once it tilted all the way up, the motor started to make the grinding noise again until I released the slide button. I thought that the motor must have been going bad. I just want to make sure that it is the motor that has gone wrong before I shell out for another one. Also, sometimes when I press the tilt button, nothing happens. I'm 90% sure that the motor is shot, but I thought I'd ask the 6GC pro's just to confirm. If anyone could help me out, please do.

-Thanks for your time, Ryan

More specifically, I think it's a gear(s) slipping inside the motor. I have the same issue and I've just gotten used to not using my sunroof. I tried taking the headliner off to take a look at it, but the material is held in by a metal surround and it seems that it can only be taken off once, so I left it alone. I'm not sure if the motor can be taken apart though, so it's either potentially replacing a gear or replacing the motor.

If the sunroof ever gets stuck, grab a hairdryer and heat up the track, then give the glass a gentle push while you're holding the retract button.
