im currently using a 2 1/4" exhaust pipe from CAT to muffler,i like the top end power right now,but the car is not torqy enough for me......i was wondering if i go with 2" will i lose top end power but gain mid range? my engine has only 2 mods,a power deck and an air filter,so far im happy with this and im not looking forward into putting some more mods,im really confused with this exhaust pipe size.
im new with the gen3 3sge,i dont know if changing to a bigger exhaust pipe will gain any power from a stock engine. TIA |

below are the basic exhaust pipe guidelines (for 3sge 3rd gen) based on the following car magazines:
- Modified Magazine: for 1500cc to 2000cc displacement, use 2" pipe. - Sport Compact Car Mag: 1800cc to 2200cc displacement, use 2.25" pipe but if you have done some internal mods, use 2.5" pipe just make sure that the pipe is mandrell bent. in my case, i initially have 2.5" pipe and i feel that i lack some low-end torque. so, i tried 2 3/8" pipe to see if there will be some improvement. using my butt dyno, i feel that low to mid response improved. so now, i'm thinking between 2" and 2.25" pipes. i don't have plans of having internal mods and we don't have stainless 2.25" pipes locally so i might opt for 2". but one thing that i will also consider is the size of my fgk hearders. if it is 2.25" then i might just use 2.25" black iron. |
