First off any help is appreciated. I'm looking into buying an mr2 spyder come december and I really want to have around 250~300whp with a turbo application. My only question is 1zz or 2zz? I've heard the 1zz has a better turbo application even on stock internals but is it better than swapping in the 2zz and turboing? also will the 5speed tranny be able to hold that much power or is there another tranny out there that bolts up to hold that much power?

I dunno about 2zz, but I have seen quite a few (and this could be due to how the owner's maintained and drove their MR-S) of those needing an engine rebuild at 100-120k miles, and sometimes even 90k. With that said, I would do some research into the engines themselves and really sit on it. We have a MR-S in town by a shop who is sponsored by Godspeed and it is pushing 450whp. Not exactly sure about it's set up, as I haven't really gotten a chance to see it myself, but I have seen their RB26 motors and they are the only ones in town with cars sporting those locally.

Anyways... From a review of the MR-S, it seems that the stock engine is fairly weak and docs points from making MR-S a more sports car over the Celica GT-S, simply because of the power of the motor. If it were me, I would drop that 2ZZ.
