Hello I am doing a full brake job on my 94 celica gt with 4 wheel disc brakes. I am wondering if I can get rid of the shims slide onto the pads. They are very thin and there is one on the metal backing plate of each pad. Mine are rusted out. If I don't use them will the pads rattle or cause any other issues? I don't feel they are really needed. Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
B

the shims on the pads are anti-squeal, remove them and face the possibility of squeaky brakes, i did and after a day i was stripping them back down and refitting the old ones which i cleaned up as best i could
