if you remove the stock shifter and cut the bottom rod and weld in a spacer to the rod and compensate for the extension on the plastic seat the shifter sits in will it function just like a short shifter?

Several members have fitted the 7th gen Celica short shifter in our 6th gens. But there are numerous complaints that it rubs on the E-brake handle because our shifter has a curve in it and the 7th gen is straight. Personally, I'm curious how your idea will turn out. Worst case scenario, you end up with exactly what the 6gc how-to has.

In fact I worried about the bend as well but there is nothing to worry about mine came out centered in the shift boot. I just bought any 7gc short shifter, it may be their installation or even a universal product that can fit it.
