A few days ago I noticed that when I shift into 5th gear at about 55 theres a whistling noise that kind of gets louder when i put my foot down more and then slowly gets quieter when i am cruising at a constant speed. It's not really an airy whistling, I figure somethin's rubbin on something. It's time for me to change my oil but since it JUST started I'm just curious about what all it may be. It's only in 5th gear for sure. I'm not a transmission person at all so if anybody can tell me anything I'd appreciate it.

I am now convinced that it is an oil problem. My car managed to lose all of its oil in a matter of 3 days so I'm gonna look at all the seals Tuesday when I'm off. I replaced that oil today and it held it fine in between cranks and to and from work, so I'll be checking it in the morning also. But even with new oil it was making the noise, just not nearly as bad.
And I know I have not been fiddlin with the gearbox and I hope that the previous owner didn't either. But that was very helpful. If I find out what it is for sure I'll post it as future reference. Thanks |
