A few days ago I noticed that when I shift into 5th gear at about 55 theres a whistling noise that kind of gets louder when i put my foot down more and then slowly gets quieter when i am cruising at a constant speed. It's not really an airy whistling, I figure somethin's rubbin on something. It's time for me to change my oil but since it JUST started I'm just curious about what all it may be. It's only in 5th gear for sure. I'm not a transmission person at all so if anybody can tell me anything I'd appreciate it.

I only heard it when accelerating & changing gears. No noise in neutral or pressing clutch.
The noise went away on it's own!! Haven't heard in for awhile!!

Driving home from work after the storm a couple weeks ago, it started acting up. 2 days later, my friend let me use a space in his shop to look it over. When I opened the hood, there was a piece of inner tube on the rocker cover-- no idea where it came from!!

I had a problem with " bucking " in 2-4th, between 25-40 mph. I put on new cap & rotor & #4 plug wire. #4 was split right at the retaining clip on the cap. I replaced the items because last time it acted like this, a tune up took care of it.

Now, it will still do it, but only sometimes, & intermittently--doesn't matter if it's warm or cold.

Ideas????

Thanks for any help!!!!
