Hello ppl, the other day i was driving on the freeway and my st started loosing power and as soon as i hit the clutch it just died. Had to get it towed back home with out knowing what the problem was, after it cooled down a bit it started up but had a very loud knocking noise. Later i took it to a garage and they told me that i busted the crankshaft and that I'll need to buy another engine.
What do u guys thing about this? I mean i would drop another 7afe in it but it would cost around 900-1000$ if the car would at least have a good paint job and look descent , but it doesn,t. So uma b lookin at 1000$ for the engine and about 600$ for a paint job, IS IT WORTH IT??? Just tell me what u guys think, all comments are welcome. Though about putting a 5fse but is really not worth it either, too much $$$ for 25hp gain. TNX |

If however you did want to swap I think a 4A-GE is the way to go. I'd look at it like this....if you spend $1000 to swap in another 7afe it better be a JDM motor with 50k or less miles. Or a USDM with low miles. Point is, make sure you know how many miles are on it before you let them drop it in. Anyway, if you spend $1000 and get a good low mileage motor you can probably get another 10+ years out of the car with only having minor issues with doing regular maintenance. From there save a bit of money every month until you have enough for paint and then your good to go. Before you do anything get a second opinion from another mechanic. Or wait for someone else to post up hear and verify that this is probably the issue. From there you can at least know for sure and shop around to possibly find someone to do it cheaper. -------------------- ![]() |
