Hey Guys. I've got a 1996 GT and my car will start, run for anywhere between 30-90 seconds, shut off and then you'll hear anywhere between 4-10 audible "ticks" coming form the distributor (which I'm assuming is the coil still firing). The car then does not turn on after that. No spark is present once it shuts off.
I replaced the cap as it was slightly damaged and then I also replaced the igniter as I know they do go bad on Toyotas. Still having thi sissue though. Anyone able to lend a helping hand on troubleshooting this issue? My next thought is either a bad distributor, bad circuit opening relay or bad ecu, but I'm sure there are other things to look at. Thanks. This post has been edited by luisitol: May 10, 2011 - 11:00 AM |

get a multimeter and test the coil's primary and secondary spots. most likely its your distributor
you actually skipped steps when diagnosing your problem. its usually cap rotor, then test connectors, then distributor, then igniter connectors to ecu, then the ecu. -------------------- I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

I'll check the external coil's resistance this evening. trying to find the flowchart for the troubleshoot from teh service manual but haven't found it online yet. Anyone have a good link to one? I haven't purchased a service manual for my celica yet and my Camry Service Manual is for the years that used internal coils so it doesn't apply. And I'd rather not waste my time using a Hayne's manual. Thanks worst-case scenario I'll use all-data instead This post has been edited by luisitol: May 10, 2011 - 5:20 PM |
