Hey Guys. I've got a 1996 GT and my car will start, run for anywhere between 30-90 seconds, shut off and then you'll hear anywhere between 4-10 audible "ticks" coming form the distributor (which I'm assuming is the coil still firing). The car then does not turn on after that. No spark is present once it shuts off.

I replaced the cap as it was slightly damaged and then I also replaced the igniter as I know they do go bad on Toyotas. Still having thi sissue though. Anyone able to lend a helping hand on troubleshooting this issue?

My next thought is either a bad distributor, bad circuit opening relay or bad ecu, but I'm sure there are other things to look at. Thanks.

Our cars have only internal coils. there is a primary lead and secondary lead that you used to test it

I have an external coil, not an internal one. Checked the resistance on it both Hot and Cold as per the troubleshooting flowchart. Max HOT primary resistance is .65ohms, I recorded .7 ohms. Max COLD primariy resistance is .55ohms, I recorded .6 ohms. For the secondary resistance I recorded 12.5K ohms which is within sepcifications.

The primary resistance numbers could have been right within specifications as it could be that my DMM is rounding the resistance up to the nearest tenth. However, being that its on the edge and my readings were just outside of it I will look for a replacement coil.

Going to continue down the troubleshooting flowchart though onto the CKPS and then the distributor to make sure those components are still within their specification limits as well.
