Summer is almost here and I am looking to buy a portable AC for my room. I'd like to know some input from people to who owns one. Thanks

I know what you're talking about now. The window unit that I just installed replaced one of these "Portable" units. Originally, a few years ago, we bought one of those "portable" units after being talked into it by the sales person at sears. The kind that we bought was a Royal Sovereign that (at the time) cost about $700+. We chose it because it was able to cool during the summer, and heat during the winter. From my experience with ours the Pro's were: Somewhat portable (although pretty heavy, and leaked everywhere if you moved it), dehumidifier, Heating and cooling, and easy setup. The Cons were: Although it could heat and cool, it could do neither of them very well. Constantly had to drain the water from it (at least every 1-2 days). No matter how hard I tried, I could never get the piece that sits in the window to seal properly, so eventually I got ghetto-fabulous used a roll of duct tape to seal it off. In the end, the unit only lasted a few years. IMO I would just get a window unit, so far I have had none of the issues that I had before with the "portable" AC. The only way I would ever get another "portable" unit is if my windows wouldn't allow for a window unit. That's just my experience though... I'm sure if you only intend to use it for a pretty small area it might work out a little better... The thing is I do not own the place, I just rent a room. I can live with draining the water since I not here most of the time. If I decide to moved out here, at least I could haul it easily without to worry about installation wherever I'm gonna move. ![]() Hella funny -------------------- God made man....
