my proxes T1-S have a treadwear rating of 280, traction AA, and temp. A. any tire with a similar rating, will perform the same.

Totally not true. First off, treadwear doesn't mean much of anything at all. Its a number assigned by the manufacturer and there are abdolutely no standards or guidelines that it is governed by. The traction and temperature ratings are a little better but not really a good gage of a performance tire. They are more geared to all-season performance on heavy vehicles (trucks).

Tires, like anything else will always be a compromise. They are a balance of dry grip, wet grip, snow/ice grip, noise, treadwear, price, and a few other less important things like speed rating, load rating and the like. I personally lean very heavily toward the dry grip with a little concern for price and wet grip and virtually no concern for anything else. Treadwear matters, but with the way I drive, nothing lasts for long. The best tire I've found for my criteria is the Falken Azenis. The Yoko ES-100s that I have on the celica now are second and the Kumho 712s third. I haven't had the yokos on the track yet, so I'm not going to make a final judgement on them.
