I'm having some trouble with the auto transmission in my '97 Celica GT, which by the way has been a great car for the three years I've owned it. The car has about 155,000 miles on it and runs great. However in cold weather the transmission won't shift into the highest gear (OD) until after the car has warmed up for a while. I've not had this problem in warm weather. I can get in, start the car, and pretty much just go. I'll get on the highway, and once I get up to about 40 or so (I haven't paid enough attention to the exact speed) it shifts into high gear. In cold weather no such luck. I have to start it, and knowing about the shifting problem, I let it run for 5 or so minutes in the driveway before I go on. If I were to just start it and go, it won't shift into high gear once I get on the highway. Has to warm up first.
