I have a 20v silvertop in my celica and was hoping to get some quick advice as to what to try next. The car starts and idles fine and drives fine through the neighborhood; however, upon acceleration through 1st 2nd and 3rd the car is sluggish and hesitant with some backfiring. When I get up to a good speed of 45mph plus car runs fine ( thank god). Changed plugs and wires, cleaned afm and checked for vacuum leaks. What next? Tps (100$) or just replace the afm altogether. Or is there something else I could check? Thanks for any help guys I know someones been here before.

Did you check for codes? Hopefully it's thrown a code that might give you a good suggestion of where to start. I'd unplug the TPS and go for a drive to see what, if anything, changes. Easier than that would be check the voltage of the TPS with a multimeter. You could always try cleaning the AFM too. Additionally, I would check the timing to make sure it hasn't skipped a tooth. Hopefully this gets you started until someone with more experience chimes in.
