Though the 7a shares allot with the 4A (FE&GE/GZE), the issue of "performance" pulleys for the 7a is not a set of parts that can be simply ported over.. the alt and the PS pump are the two that i have found that CAN be shared.. but the main one that would benefit of a more light weight pulley, is the water pump pulley. the 4age (easier to find parts for) has a different configuration for how the belts are run to power the water pump.. and there for the pulley is not the same as our 7a's.
well all of this to say that there is a manufactor that has started to make a set of all aluminum pulley for the 7A.. a FULL set ![]() ![]() ![]() Here!!! check em out.. this auction is up for 299.. but i had seen em up (for full set still) for 150, and 115... they also have an "OBO" optioin.. i gave it a try and now have a set on its way here...!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i will take and post pix as soon as i get them.. and give review once i get the car back on the road.. OK,, so before going into any more information and details, i have to say that one of the pulleys is of a wrong design. the power steering pulley is the correct size in every respect. but the mount on the new unit is a spline drive, where as the OEM (both 95 and 96) is a key drive.. i have already contacted the seller and are awaiting a response with a solution to the issue.
so, here we go. just as i opened and unpacked the box. ![]() now the only scales that i had to use were some of my dad's kitchen scales. i used the only one that was labeled in pounds. it is not incredibly accurate according to him, but still good enough. i used the same scale for all measurmants and they were all done within and hour, and the temps were the same. (since that would effect the spring) Total weight of the new pulley set. 2.5 lbs ![]() next up the stock pulleys. ![]() total weight of 7.75 lbs ![]() WOOT!!! a total savings of 5.25 lbs now for each one.. stock crank: 4.75 lbs ![]() its replacement: 1.125 lbs ish (savings of aprox 3.625 lbs) ![]() then we have the power steering pulley... stock is just under 1.25 lbs ![]() and its replacement is just over .5 lbs for a savings of .75 lbs (ish) ![]() next up is the is the stock alt a just over .5 lbs ![]() and its replacement at .25 lbs for a savings of .25 lbs ![]() and last but not least the water pump... stock = just over 1.25 lbs ![]() and its replacement sitting at .75 lbs for a savings of .75 lbs ![]() and now some comparison pix. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() now other than the issue with the spline vs key drive on the power steering pulley, which i hope to have sorted after the weekend. the only other thing that i have noticed when comparing the new aluminum replacements vs the OEM is that the new pulleys seem to be a bit thinner, but i do not think that it will be an issue with alignment of the belts. i will come back to this once the power steering pulley issue has been resolved, and i can mount them all on. -------------------- |
