That is a clean car.
The engine is still an inline 4. It still has 4 cylinders the only big difference is that the head has 2 sparkplugs per cylinder. This was a big thing in the earlier days of turbocharging because ignition systems couldn't cope with the higher cylinder pressures. Having 2 plugs per cylinder doubled the chances that the mixture would light. With todays modern ignition systems this isn't necessary. Top fuel drag cars still run 2 plugs per cylinder, but they're producing over 6000hp. That is a 2-valve head, so it probably doesn't flow well at all even with any porting thats done. Unless that motor is really stout and hes running a ton of boost, it probably don't make as much power as you'd think. If it does, its doing it really inefficiently. Its a really cool piece of history, but not something I would put in a modern car. |
