I replaced my ecu a while back. It failed for what appeared to be no reason. The new one has failed me as well. It was a rainy day, car was jerking a little, all of a sudden the car lost all power and wouldn't even try to start again. Any idea what could cause this to happen twice? I know the car hates low octane fuel, I have to run 89-93 in it. It also seems to run worse when the temperature varies a lot. One more thing, I didn't think it had an alarm but after it died I hit the button to lock the doors and it started beeping... ? Pllllleeeaaseee help me I love my car and want it fixed. kindasad.gif

Check under the driver side seat to see if there is a black box. If there is, you have a factory alarm, though I don't believe our keys were ever chipped and utilize an immobilizer (USDM spec- I know Euro spec cars did have an immobilizer.)

Does the car crank endlessly when you try to turn it over?

When you turn the key to ON, is your check engine light on? This signifies that the ECU is getting power.

Take the spark plugs out of each cylinder, one at a time, and check for fuel and spark. I'm more inclined to think you have an issue with a ground or your fuel pump is dying rather than ECU failure.

Take the ECU out and take the metal housing apart. See if you find any burnt transistors or any scorched spots on the circuit board. If indeed the ECU is dead, I'd say you have a definite wiring problem somewhere causing the ECU to fry itself.
