I replaced my ecu a while back. It failed for what appeared to be no reason. The new one has failed me as well. It was a rainy day, car was jerking a little, all of a sudden the car lost all power and wouldn't even try to start again. Any idea what could cause this to happen twice? I know the car hates low octane fuel, I have to run 89-93 in it. It also seems to run worse when the temperature varies a lot. One more thing, I didn't think it had an alarm but after it died I hit the button to lock the doors and it started beeping... ? Pllllleeeaaseee help me I love my car and want it fixed.

If you have spark and fuel, it should run. Did you test the pump itself by putting power directly to it or we're you getting fuel out of the cylinders when you tried to to turn it over and check for spark? Could very well be a dying fuel pump relay or COR, if it wasn't changed out with the ECU. Have you tried giving the fuel pump direct power then turning it over? This would bypass the relays and force the pump to work regardless.
I'm just trying to figure out if there is an alternate issue that is mimicking a dead ECU or if there really is an electrical bug killing your ECU's. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. The ignitor controls ignition below 400rpm on toyotas. In theory it should prduce spark even if the ECU is bad so long as the ECU is powering on. But the fuel injectors wont operate without the distributor and ECU working. Your first test should be to take the air intake hose off of the throttlebody and spray starter fluid( its like $3 a can) into the intake. Try to start the car. If it suddenly gets fire and tries to run or runs for a few seconds(depends on how much you sprayed) then you not getting fuel. If it still doesnt get any combustion you are not getting spark. This should always be your first test as it eliminates 50% of the possible problems, fuel or spark |
