My buddy has a 94' Tercel and he installed a Japanese Paseo Turbo engine...it's a weird code...he said it was 5A-FE. I know that regular Paseo engines are 5E-FE like the one in the Tercel, but I'm pretty sure it's gotta be a 5A-FTE or 5E-FTE...I'm just guessing. He discarded the stock turbo and installed a custom manifold with a CT-26 out of a deuce. He's running 10 PSI on stock injectors and it hauls ASS. The turbo whistles very loud, but it starts spooling and pulling after 4500 RPM...don't know why. My 7A-FTE at 10 PSI felt stronger and pulled a lot earlier. That engine is less than 1.5 liter...maybe that explains why it feels weaker...also, my turbo is way bigger than the toyish CT-26. Anyway, the little engine has a lot of potential and a high redline...sometimes he went past 7000 RPM...it was very lovely.

It's funny how that little engine propels a Tercel to high 11's. There's a mechanical engineering college in Puerto Rico...I don't remember the name, I think it's Mech Tech...and they built a 5E-FE and slapped on a Microtech EMS. The only things that the engine has internal-wise is forged pistons, rods, and all the other details. The bottom end is completely stock. So yeah, like you said, it depends on how the setup is made and the quality of the design.
