Cleaning the engine bay, First time so advice needed. Lol. Options

I got a 97 celica gt that has a minor oil leak and I decided to give it a cleaning. So I can spot the oil leak much easier. But anyways. Off the maintenance topic. I need help on how to PROPERLY clean our engine bays. If you're wandering I have any modifications? I only have the injen short ram. So what products should I use to clean it and what should I cover up with plastic to prevent getting wet. What area to not get water contact. Is there a certain direction I should spray in? Should I use power wash, jet blast nozzle(from gardening hose thingy majigger), or just use a straight out water hose to clean it? Thanks!

I can't remember who posted this, but I started doing it myself and it works great!

"But when I wash the bay I do it like this:

-Go to a do it yourself car wash
-Leave the engine running, pop the hood
-Use the "degreaser setting" to spray the bay down(get the block, trans, firewall, battery, head, intake mani, AVOID the dizzy) The engine may misfire if you get the dizzy wet, BTW(if so, dont worrk, just avoid it more, this is why its running, the heat will dry it out faster). Get the wheels while you're at it. also give the bay a quick once over before you change steps.
-Use the "wax" setting and rinse off the bay. HI pressure everywhere except close to the dizzy
-Soak the bay down with armor all.
-Close hood
-Was car as normal. "
