Have a knock or clunk felt in in the steering wheel when either turn left or right or going over bumps. cant tell if its the rack or the steering u joint that connects to the rack and column. replace the inner rack ends and tie rod ends. but the knock is def something to do with the steering. any input would be great.

could be rack mount bushings. your pinion shaft might be loose, like what you are saying but open it up and check - doesnt hurt. does it sound like from the steering or from like a ball joint? check if your rack moves when you steer, have someone steer and you look at it. or inspect the rack bushings, thats a good place to start. it could be anywhere between steering and suspension.
