Well i got underneath my car today because i know i have an oil leak, I took my skid plate off and it was pretty obvious where most of the oil is. My questions are,,,Does it look like the oil is coming from the timing belt cover? If it is, is it just a seal i need to replace? And the most important question,,,Can my engine remain inside the engine bay to do this?

I'm not sure where on the car you're at but those could be parking brake cables. Take the timing cover loose and look inside for oil, very common for cam seals, crank seals, and especially oil pump seals to leak. Sorry i was at a weird angle on the ground there, The cables are in the middle of the car underneath, i figured it was my brake cables or something like that. very common. no need to pull the engine. cam seal, oil pump seals valve cover gasket distributor seal kit those are your main seals that leak on the 5s over 100k miles. while doing the timing belt side seals, also a good time to do the water pump and t-belt if it hasnt been done alredy. Thanks for the reply!,,,Do i need to move my engine at all to get at these seals? It looks really tight to be changing the timing belt etc inside the bay,,,My problem is I'm living in a trailer at the moment and don't have a shop or any lifts, Might be a stupid question here but is there any chance i can spend a few days and do this in my driveway LOL? I love my celica I've fixed all the other leaks and problems and I'm not about to let this one get me. |
