car just overheated, help please!! Options

So me and my friend had a stupid idea to try and color my valve cover. So after the deed was done we drove it from Garland to Dalllas and when we got to the destination the engine was smoking and we tried to put oil in again so we could get home. Then we got home it ran out of oil again. My question is, what happened to make it go like that?

Ignition timing which is off may cause overheating. The ignition system can be impaired by oil leaking into the distributor, fouling the contacts.

To be clear, there are two oil seals on the distributor.

There is an O-ring around the shaft of the distributor which seals the opening in the cylinder head into which the distributor is inserted. This is very easily corrected, but while messy is unlikely to cause any mechanical problems other than perhaps degrading an axle or steering boot.

The second seal is within the distributor itself. It keeps oil from creeping up the interior of the shaft and into the distributor cap. To replace this seal requires rebuilding the distributor, which can be done at home with hand tools. http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthrea...tos!!** A temporary fix is to remove the cap and clean it and the rotor, removing the oil which may interfere with the contacts.
