recently my 96 celica st blew its motor due to the moron who owned it b4 not changing the oil for probably 90k miles -.-, so i figured a 3sgte swap would be ideal
![]() - 2nd gen 3sgte - really late 80's 3s trans ive searched and searched but could only come up with confusing answers. Ive gathered that the transmission is a s51 and yes it bolts up to the motor with any hassle, i know i need a clutch disc for that tran. with pressure plate and flywheel for the 3sgte (already taken care of). now i just need to know wtf to do about my axles -This guy ![]() |

s51 has the longest gears out of the s53 and s54.
The S51 transmission is the weakest. the S54 I know has dual syncros on every gear or something to that effect. I saw this because I member here took out his 5th gear on the S54 and replaced it with a S51 5th gear. He noted that the 5th gear from the S51 only had one syncro. -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts
