hi i have just rebuilt my 205 engine just head gasket valves and cam belt. after running it up for a while i set the timming at 10 degress i was told you have to bridge the 2 wires in the diagnostic port which i done and timming is fine untill i take the wires out, the the timming all gos out can you help please thankyou

yes shorting Te and E1 put the ECU in a test mode. thats when you lock in the distributor. when you take the short out, the timing mark will jump all over the place. thats normal
