 funny smell, with heater on |

Hey, im new to the forums, got my ride a few days ago, and i love it.. definatly a step up from what i had before.
Anyways, when i have the heater on, and the air coming in from the outside, there is a funny smell coming through the vents. Its almost like the smell you get from being behind someone whos burning oil. Also, you can only smell it inside the car when the heats on. BTW, i searched, but nothing relavent came up. Is that the same thing as the heater core? I'm assuming it is. I know id have to take the dash out to replace it, but how much would getting a new one run?
