i have a a 2nd gen swap. the alternator is only putting out 11.5v if that. not light is on. i checked with multiple batteries. resistance is fine for the three wires going off of the plug. i took it to a shop and they said it tested at 14v, im not sure what to do. leaning towards a problem like brushes maybe, but not sold on the alternator being the issue. also where is the best place to get an 2nd gen alternator... im leaning towards advance auto.

Check to make sure that the wires on the 3 wire harness plug are not damaged and making good contact. If they get damaged, the alternator will not put out 14v but will bench test just fine.
I'm using a 5sfe alternator for the automatic (80amp) from autozone. It works great and they keep your info on file so that you have lifetime warranty. I just had to wire in the 5sfe oval plug to make it work. This post has been edited by lagos: Oct 8, 2012 - 10:50 AM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
