im just curious, I've done my brakes several times and recently they started making this loud creaking noise while moving at slow speeds and applying the brakes. After inspecting them I found one of the guide bolt pins was sticking badly. so after replacing them all and putting some fresh anti-seize they've stopped making that noise. well any ways my question is just how often should those guide pins be replaced? Usually i'll use the retainer clips and those V-shaped springs through maybe 2 sets of pads but I've never replaced the pins before now and my Celica is just shy of 250K miles.

Only grease where the caliper hits the pad and the slides. Also cheap pads or glazed rotors will creek.
Also those pins, i call them slides, shouldnt have to be replaced as long as there greased good. But yeß they can wear out. |
