Hey guys,
I installed 8" woofers in the front doors and no longer need my old speakers. There are Rockford Fosgate r1653. I ran them for about a year and they sounded great. The mids and highs were terrific but I wanted a little more bottom end and I didn't want to add a sub. The are in like new condition. I never beat on them and they still sound as good as they did when they were new. I have the box and speaker grills (never installed) in case someone wants to install them in another car. They also have an homemade adapter ring I made out of plywood if interested. I'd like to get $30 shipped for the pair. Hey rivs just a quick question. I am looking myself for 2 x 8'' for the front doors with a good bass on them but not subs just overall loud and good bass. What did you get? Any review on your new speakers? How do they sound?

Hey rivs just a quick question. I am looking myself for 2 x 8'' for the front doors with a good bass on them but not subs just overall loud and good bass. What did you get? Any review on your new speakers? How do they sound? ![]() Thanks. Well, to be honest, I had been researching the 8-speaker setup ever since I found that they existed. I was never able to get the door panels, someone always seemed to buy them before me, or they were just way to expensive. I also couldn't find any good 3-way component setups that reviewed well. It's not a common size in mobile audio. So I did the next best thing. I had some Sony 2*8" home theater towers that I knew sounded great that were just lying around. So I salvaged the speakers from that, made my own cross-over (I'm an electrical engineering student) and mounted them in the car. I molded the tweeter covers into the blank mirror covers, and I modified the door panel to receive the 4" mid. Here are some pics: Donner: ![]() 8" Woofer: ![]() Installed: ![]() They sound amazing! The bass is perfect and having the tweeters and voices up top makes a HUGE difference. The bass sounds like a sub, its hits all the low notes down to about 20hz, it just isn't the chest hitting power you would get from a sub. I do have all the speakers amp'd(100 watt per channel), there is no way a deck could drive them very well. A side note: if you do something similar be sure to tighten every bolt/screw/fastener in the doors. Otherwise it will rattle and buzz and generally kill the sound quality. -rivs This post has been edited by rivs: Nov 13, 2012 - 7:11 PM |
