Hard to describe the sound. Its not squealing belts. It's noticeable with windows up. Almost like a whine but gentle. And it goes away after it reaches higher speed. Any idea what it might be. I have a 1994 GT automatic with 167k.

I think that's normal automatic transmission noise, mine whines in first when cold, audible under very soft acceleration, usually right before the point where the tranny shifts into 2nd at about 15mph indeed.
