 Low idle?, 500 rpms with AT transmission |

Is this low? It seems like it shakes a little bit like its too low, also the oil light flickers at this rpms but once i get to about 700 it stops, my friend told me to just increase the idle to about 700 and it will be fine.
also if im letting the car sit there for a while, sometimes it sounds like it revs on its own, like it will be all quit and then get louder for about 30 seconds or something, this also happened on my neon however so im inclined to think that its normal. also can anyone tell me how to increase the idle? thanks
