Ok..look through this thread if you want to see my past attempts.
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...chometer+signal In short, my temp gauge and tach gauge don't work anymore. The options I've thought about are (1) getting SS III gauges off ebay for $150 and swapping the odo, or (2) getting a cluster from an early 00's toyota car that has coil-on-plug setup from the factory and putting that tach in with my gauge face (may not be accurate). Option 1 seems more doable, but I don't want to spend the $150 on gauges (PLUS I don't know if my wire harness connects to the SS III gauges, can someone tell me???) If so, all I would need to do is connect the tach wire from my Autronic ecu and configure, correct? Hopefully the wire connectors aren't needed. Option 2 seems cheaper if I can find working used gauges on ebay. I'm concerned about the tach signal not lining up with the correct numbers (since I would have the moving parts from the donor car and the gauge face from mine). The only other downside would be that I still have to fix my temp gauge. My only questions are about the interchangeability of the SS III gauges with the celica (manual trans GT convertible). And if anyone knows what other toyota models with coil-on-plugs would be good candidates for using the RPM gauge in the celica. -------------------- -Jay

You could use a Dakota Digital or MSD tach adapter as well, costs $75-80. The guys on the BEAMS Owners Group know a simple fix by replacing one resistor to get your current tach working. I'd get the link but I'm a bit short on time.

I'd get the link but I'm a bit short on time. Thanks, but I should have been more specific when I said my tach doesn't work. It isn't only because it isn't connected. Something is wrong internally with the tach. I made an adapter that had the needle bouncing but it stopped working before I could fully install the adapter. Not sure why. I followed the megasquirt directions when making it, and double/triple checked everything. Tach doesn't work still. -------------------- -Jay

the 7th gen gauges will not work its a single piece and all digital. the 6th gen is still analog.

the 7th gen gauges will not work its a single piece and all digital. the 6th gen is still analog. that's good to know. I was thinking about buying a set but didn't want to because I didn't know. It looks like the 1MZ Solara, Avalon, and Camry with RPM gauges might work, but the RPM sweep is too spread out across the gauge (at least 200 degrees from 0 - 8k), and this is from the late 90's early 00's, the mid to late 00's Solaras have the same RPM sweep as the celica but they are most likely one circuit board like the 7th gen celica. All of the 5vz engines with COPs have long sweep RPM needles, except for Tundra gauges. The tundra looks like it has the same degree of sweep as the celica. Just from eye-balling it, the tundra has maybe 150 - 160 degrees sweep between 0 and 7k RPM. The celica has about the same between 0 and 7k, but also extends up to 8k. I'm not sure if these gauges are all one circuitboard or separate though and I don't know what other toyota would have a COP setup and an RPM needle with the same degrees of sweep that we need. I would be willing to buy a set of gauges to see if the price is right, or better yet find a broken set for cheap. Maybe I can find a good ebay listing that shows pictures of the front and back of the gauges, clear enough to tell if the circuit board is all one unit or separate. Also from what I can tell so far, there are 99 - 02 tundra gauges, and 03 - 04 gauges. Not sure what the difference is without comparing more. If anyone has access to some gauges that wouldn't mind pulling them out to check if it's all one circuitboard I will be very happy ![]() -------------------- -Jay

Hi,
i had the same problem with the gen.4 3S-GTE and his cops, i simple opened the combi-meter, changed the 43kOHM resistor of the rpm gauge against a 5KOhm (iirc), and then i used the haltech own 5V pullup rpm output greetz -------------------- |

So I got a little creative the other day and figured out how to compare the celica gauges to the 99 - 02 tundra gauges without actually having them near me. I used math. Between 0 and 7k rpm there is the same degree of sweep, or close enough for it to not matter much. The screw holes that are in the picture on the outside of the gauge hold in the assembly. The fact that the gauges are shifted more counterclockwise on the tundra doesn't really matter much. I would just place the needle on 1k rpm when the car is idling (or 1100 or 900 or whatever it naturally idles at)

Hi,
that resistor just lowers the ampere on the instrument for security, i could also shorten him the ecu outups not that high amount of ampere just a few volts the water temp gauge on the 3S-GTE is directly controlled by a temp.resistor in the water outlet neck, looks like this -> 12V -> gauge -> temp.resistor -> ground check for a open or shortened circuit greetz -------------------- |

HEY!!
So I found this ebay seller selling SS-III automatic gauges, and for a lot cheaper. Is there a BEAMS engine that is paired with an Automatic transmission? If not is the engine in the Auto SS-III at least configured with COPs so the tach would be a signal from the ecu? The only difference on the back of the gauges seems to be the extra square plug. I'm going to compare the circuitry to my gauges circuitry to make sure it's the same. Either way I'll probably buy them, at the very least I could rob the tacho(considering the signal is the same), BUT what I'm thinking of is using the Auto trans lights for indicator lights to show certain systems running like fans, wideband controller, and maybe a shift light, or whatever else I'll think of using the extra bulbs for. A friend of mine has a business with a vinyl printer, I can scrape off the P R N D 1 L letters inside of their respective boxes on the display and put other letters in there with a vinyl sticker that has a clear letter cut out. Yeah, the SS-III's were offered with the same auto trans that the 5S came with. I'd like to see the custom work where the PRNDL would show your wideband.

Oh I'm not using it for air/fuel ratio.. I'm using it just as a power light to show me that the wideband controller has power..same for the radiator fans and whatever else i think of. Yeah, it would be a BEAMS engine. The wideband readings would have been awesome but activation lights are still cool. Congrats on the cheapest ST205 cluster ever.

Congrats on the cheapest ST205 cluster ever. ![]() well, the guy sent me a message after and said that the shipping to Hawaii is more (just like everything else), I thought I was lucky there for a bit.
