Ultra cheap for a fun car,. that's what I've been thinking about, but I've been thinking it would be much more fun to go with the MR2 instead.
My two cents |

My two cents Mr2 are tad too small for my liking, but i respect them No. Get 1st gen celica If i could find another 1st gen celica that isnt rusted to hell, or completely hacked up i would in a heartbeat. I have my eyes set on a 74 and 78 that are in the next town over, just waiting for the guys divorce to get rolling because he has to liquidate his assets |

If it's a 7M, redo the headgasket if it hasn't been done already. If it has been, double-check it anyways depends on who you bought it from. lol. Other than that, they're a comfortable GT car. If you get a turbo model, be sure not to total out that car, but if you do, hold onto that R154 transmission for dear life. They're starting to fetch a pretty penny. Other than that, they're like any other 20+ year old car. Supramania has a lot of good info; just use the search function.

Yep, it's a good time to do timing and water pump as well. Just make sure you torque the head-gasket down to the new spec. Get that out of the way and with general maintenance they're reliable engines. One thing is if you could find one with a bad engine you can swap in a 2JZ for cheap enough from a wrecked GS/SC300.

or go 1JZ-GTE VVTi. Cheaper option with good power and you'll still get awesome gas mileage. lol

How is that cheaper? Can go to any junk yard in America and can find a 2JZ. Most people end up going single turbo anyhow for big power, so making a NA-T is a viable option should the 225hp not do it for you.

One advantage of the MKII is weight, but the MKIII looks so much better.

It's cheaper compared to going 2JZ-GTE and even going NA-T with a GE. You can find a 2JZ-GE in any yard, but not the GTE. I haven't seen many yards let a motor go for less than $700-800 average though. :\ For a few bucks more, you can get a 1JZ VVTi, get Tweak'd to make a harness, swap oil pans, get the right bellhousing & clutch set-up, and go crazy. Also a plus to going the GTE route, you get stronger internals than you do with a GE. That's just me though. ![]() -------------------- -Alex {](O_o)[}

Nice car, but hate that color for some odd reason, I found a guy in ohio who has a 88 with out the all rust for 2500, not too bad, either way I go Im ripping out the motor and redoing the gaskets, seals, timing belt, water pump and what else looks like it needs to be done, since its a 20+ yr old car. But loving all the feed back, im looking into the 1jz swap right now if I can find a decent motor to start up with. |

Then your yards suck, the ones near me sell per cylinder. So a 70's Ford V8 costs just as much as a 00's BMW V8. I don't see the point in the 1JZ, might as well go 2JZ. That'd be like using a 5M instead of a 7M. Or in American a 305 instead of a 350.

Sorry meant 2jz lol was looking up 1jz vs 2jz, what cars came with 1UZ |

GS/LS/SC 400 did. Though you need the SC400 oil sump assembly and pan for use in the Supra. Then it's just a matter of bell housing adapter, flywheel, and clutch kit. Then lots of fun wiring.

People are harder on the 7M than they should be. If you get to it before the head-gasket blows and replace it and tighten to the new spec you'll be fine. Which if you intend on going with a JZ swap then buy an '89-92 to make life a little easier.
