So ive looked around and havent really found a proper forum that covers rebuilding the 5sfe, everyone just wants a rebuild with turbo or swapping out for faster parts. I just want a simple rebuild, keep everything stock so i can sell it later for a 3sge cause its my daily car at the moment.

Ive been looking at the gasket kits and reseal kits on ebay and wanted to know if those were any good or should I just stick with oem but is it worth it spending alot of money staying oem when when ebay gaskets are almost just as good.

I just need a list of what I am looking at to buy and how much im looking to spend. Just want a stock rebuild nothing crazy

Help and much appreciated thumbsup.gif

i wrote a guide on rebuilding the 7A. it will be very similar to the 5S. i did write a guide on removing the engine.

as for gaskets kits, get the OEM rebuild kit. its pricey but its OEM, you wont ever have to worry about leaks.

You might be better off finding a decent used engine since you plan on selling it later. I was all set to rebuild the trany on my van till I found one on CL for less than the cost of the parts and it only had 50k on it.

Do you think its gonna cost the same price of swapping a 3sge cause the prices are rounding about the same price ?

Im gonna check at your guide aswell

Im gonna look into finding another motor but hopefully its not the same price as a 3sge, I live in vegas so its rare finding parts for celicas its all about hondas in vegas frown.gif plus toyota dealarships are ripp off for oem parts unless your work for them

5sfe is a very common engine tho. Came in mr2/Celica/Camry. I think the Camry camshafts are slightly less aggressive if I recall. Also your right on 5sfe being over priced at times... Jdm outlet here in Ohio wanted 1700 for one... The 3gste was only 1500 for Celica same place.

Sam -

I rebuilt 3 5SFEs at the same time last year for the race car.. I can probably help you out with pointers and cost estimations,

The only way to really answer this question is if first you tell the forum why you are rebuilding the engine?

Well the car has almost 200,000 miles and it just leaks ive changed the oil pump and valve cover seal and still leaks so im just gonna rebuild and do the head gasket and rear main seal and since im doing that i might as well do all the gaskets and seals
