i saw the footage of this today with my dad... Messed up to say the least... the way i look at it is this- The person who threw the beer was totally out of line, no doubt. but with that said- the player who ran up into the seating and started swinging was acting out of complete IGNORANCE AND UNPROFESSONALISM! Was throwing the beer right? NO. having a plastic cup of beer thrown at you from 6 rows up is NOT threatening your saftey. Attacking the fan was NOT self defense. Insulting in the extreme yes, but not justifiable to go apesh*t in the crowd when you are supposed to be a professional and are in the public eye. The players involved in the crowd fiasco will be sued no doubt, and in my opinion, deserve it. they also better not get just a slap on the wrist from the NBA. If you cannot understand in a situation like that you cannot attack the fans you dont have the brains to be a proffessional in ANY sport.

i agree 100% with you saleeka i see all these polls on ESPN and on the internet asking whos to blame for it all, i believe the one on ESPN ended up being 50% believe the detroit fans were at fault, 34% believed ron artest was to blame, and like 8% thought it was ben wallace.

in my opinion it was like 80% THAT fan, the one single solitary fans fault, 15% artests fault. and the final 5% was a culmination of ben wallace, the NBAs lax policy on security and seating arrangements, the concessions not having a sales limit on alcohol at athletic events, and the referees letting the game get out of hand early on.

if you watched the game itself you can see the refs letting wayy too much go.

that whole thing was nuts...sorry to say, i laughed at some points, but was disappointed mostly.

-Stephen Jackson is freakin nuts...dude is straight ghetto. He came in outta nowhere and clocked that guy in the stands. He probably should get the steepest punishment.

-Ben Wallace is a punk for overreacting like that...the foul wasn't even that bad.

-Jermaine O'Neal with the sliding M.Bison punch...haha...

-Like Tim Legler said on espn.com, if a fan is on the actual court, he's looking for trouble, and that's his fault when he gets it.

-The Detroit fans were totally out of line...mob mentality like others said.

-Poor Scot Pollard in his nice suit got drenched leading J. O'Neal back to the locker room.

I've never seen anything like this, and it's surprising that it was the NBA. Like people have said before, buying a ticket to a game doesn't give you an excuse to be a jackass.

I'd say Jackson gets fined and 15 games, Artest gets the same (even though he shouldn't...but he has a bad rep), O'Neal gets fined and 8-10, Wallace gets fined and 5.

OMG i was there that night, we were going to leave with 1 min 30 sec. left, but we decided to stay and support with the rest of the fans when all hell broke loose!
It was unbelievable!

We were right there where they started running into the fans!!

Artest and Wallace were both acting a little immaturely, letting their frustrations get the better of them. There's no question that Wallace overreacted, but what was the point of Artest commiting that flagrant foul? In the replay it clearly shows that he pushed the back of Wallace's head when Wallace was going up for the bucket. There's 42 seconds left, just let it go, there's no reason for that foul. As Big Ben said, "There aint no 15 point shot". That foul was Artest being Artest showing his immaturity and lack of self control that the league has witnessed in his time playing in the NBA. If there's one thing positive that came out of this brawl it is... THE BAD BOYS ARE BACK IN DETROIT! tongue.gif

anywhere that serves alcohol has limits. but i dont know about your city but most bartenders don't actually watch for this thing.

Correction: The bad boys are out of the NBA. I wouldn't be proud if some Bucks players did this. This is a disgrace.

how much would that suck though? you can get a job somewhere else when you get fired. what are these "professionals" going to do now? i just hope they didn't buy too much bling bling and too many escalades cuz now they might have to go into the real world.

i think the NBA did a good job thus far in handing out punishments

Wallace got 6 games (and probably will get a fine later on) for the push to artests face, which is pretty basic for that type of over reaction.

artest is out for the season, probably will get a fine, and will deal with the legal bull**** that is the detroit DA's office.

jackson got 30 games, plus dealing with the Detroit legal branch, he'll probably have some civil cases brought against him more than anything criminal.

oneal got 25 games, probably a fine later on, and will probably get hit pretty big financially by that one guy he decked in the face.

and im sure a handful or 2 of the fans will get some criminal and civil charges brought up against them, not to mention loosing whatever season or partial season tickets they were holding.

i think so far the NBA has done a good job of not blowing it out of proportion, but dealing with it appropriately.

im just looking forward to next season when artest gets back and they play detroit again smile.gif

I really hope the fans involved get severe punishments as well, like being banned from NBA games for 5 years to life. They need to be held accountable just as much as the players were.
